The Art Behind the Astro Pictures: Lecture Online

If you've ever been curious how one goes from datasets taken by Spitzer and other telescopes to the colorful imagery seen on the gallery here, this is the week to have your questions answered. Dr. Robert Hurt, the visualization scientist for Spitzer will be delivering the von Karman lecture this week on "The Art of Image Processing".

His talk spans the electromagnetic spectrum and show how research data can be turned into spectacular photography, and how we can fool the eye sense of color to reveal wonders beyond the limits of human eyesight. Featured datasets include not only imagery from Spitzer, but also from many other missions including WISE, Herschel, Chandra, and Hubble.

If you are in the Pasadena, CA area then you have two chances to catch the talk, Thursday at JPL's von Karman auditorium, and Friday at the Voshloh Forum at Pasadena Community College?

Not local? You can still catch the live webcast on Thursday night at 7:00 PM PST on uStream. More details on the lecture and webcast can be found here.

Update: The lecture can now be viewed online at this link.
